Diversity is a core component of the PetSure culture, and we are proud to partner with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education to help support its Indigenous programs.

Our first initiative is involvement in the Galuwa program, which encourages more Indigenous youth to pursue a higher education. In the Gadigal language, Galuwa means “to climb”.

The Program began with an annual residential camp that gave year 10-12 students real insight into university life and career options they could aspire to. In November 2017, students, teachers and elders traveled from the Northern Territory to participate in interactive hands-on workshops at UTS and at PetSure.

PetSure launched the Galuwa Program by welcoming 45 students, teachers and delegates from the Northern Territory Department of Education from Tennant Creek (NT) and Maningrida (NT) schools.

Students participated in real business problem solving exercises across marketing, IT and customer service. This included helping redesign packaging for FitBark, a dog activity tracking device, as well as creating new add-ons and taglines for the product. Students also had the opportunity to gain further insight into technology used at PetSure through live video feed into our Manila operations where they participated in discussions with the Philippines IT team.

Together with UTS, PetSure was able to provide the students with an understanding of the type of educational requirements they would need to undertake if they wanted to pursue a career within the Financial Services industry.

Importantly, the students were made aware of the commitment PetSure has made to the program to provide educational and mentor support.
